Yesterday I watched one of my favorite movies, “The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.” It is based on the real life of Gladys Aylward. A woman who bravely journeyed to China on her own to be a missionary when no one felt she was qualified to do so. The movie and producer added a few features into the movie probably for the audience appeal such as a love interest which did not happen but in my opinion does not deter from the message of the movie. I for one love the addition! Gladys was a strong-willed, devoted, caring, loving, woman who loved God and lived into her purpose and God blessed her and her efforts. The movie was released in 1958 starring Ingrid Bergman.
Gladys Aylward (Ingrid Bergman), a British maid, believed that she was destined to go to China. She was rejected as a missionary, but she eventually finds her way to the town of Yang Cheng and happily runs an inn there. Her peaceful existence, however, is interrupted by Japan’s invasion of China. Aided by Lin Nan (Curt Jurgens), a half-Chinese/half-Dutch military officer, Gladys must lead a group of orphans to safety by embarking on a dangerous mountain journey.

Friends, if you are unfamiliar with this story I highly recommend watching the movie for yourself. I have yet to read the book, “The Small Woman” but it is on my list. Listening to God’s voice and following His plans are always better than any of our own plans alone. I lift you up and pray that God’s small still voice can be heard by you. Never doubt who you are, you are a child of God Almighty! Below are some encouraging words from the Bible. May you be blessed in very real ways today. Give thanks to God, God is good…God is always good! Amen.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” John 15:16
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3
“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
