Hello friends—

I am not here to state my opinion or to side with any one political party or to promote any one group with the exception of the people on planet Earth.

I am merely providing some definitions of words currently being used to promote personal preferences and opinions with no regard, in some cases to give pause and research the “Who, What, When, Where and Why— Monuments, Memorials, and Statues were erected.

This is America, a multi-cultural melting pot of people represented by nearly if not all the continents on Earth. The land of opportunity, home of the free and the brave. The founders of this great country laid out a plan for the future, for growth and prosperity. As an American, we cannot improve or forge into the future by demolishing the foundation on which it was conceived. We built upon that foundation together, not divided. There’s always something a single person can do, what may seem small can grow over time.

Small gestures do make a difference, using a trash receptacle can show others you care about your community and “Mother Earth.” Opening a door for someone, show courtesy and respect. Listen and pause before reacting to something or someone that angers you, as an example…a car doesn’t use there signal to turn or change lanes…as frustrating as that may be, what if the person was rushing to the hospital because a loved one had been injured; or their child had been involved in an accident at school; maybe they just lost their job…the list goes on and on. What if in that moment we chose to pause and imagine trading places…have you ever been in one of these situations??? Did anyone extend grace and forgiveness?

I am certainly not saying that losing one’s temper should never happen, it does! All I’m saying is, think and imagine yourself doing the same thing, how would you like others to treat you.

I will admit with age comes wisdom, lots of trial and errors, and growing pains.

Monument

Memorial

Statue

Definition of statue

• a three-dimensional representation usually of a person, animal, or mythical being that is produced by sculpturing, modeling, or casting

A memorial is an object which serves as a focus for the memory or the commemoration of something, usually an influential, deceased person or a historical, tragic event. Popular forms of memorials include landmark objects or works of art such as sculptures, statues or fountains and parks.

Monuments and memorials serve multiple functions in the communities in which they are erected. When the members of a community create a monument or memorial, they are making a statement about the ideas, values, or individuals they think their society should remember.

A historical monument is a rich source of History. It gives us a sense of wonder and makes us curious to know more about the past connected with it. The study of a monument helps the students construct History through observation. The activity generates interest in historical buildings and develops observation skills.

The main difference between Monument and Memorial is that the Monument is a type of structure either explicitly created to commemorate a person or important event, or used for that purpose and Memorial is a object which serves as a focus for memory of something.
