Tonight I met with my women’s group from my church called Esther’s Circle. We are a group of women who meet once a month in one of our homes and share in conversation, snacks, devotional time and dessert. It is a wonderful group of women from a multitude of backgrounds and life experiences. We had decided a few months ago to begin a book study of the Book of Esther in the Old Testament in the Bible. As the group appointed leader I purchased two study books and a commentary in hopes to share a variety of material about Esther. We were few in number tonight so we did not officially start the study but we still managed to talk for well over three hours, just the three of us. It was a wonderful and relaxed evening sharing good food and great conversation. I think too often we get busy with the “busyness” of life that we don’t take time to listen to other people’s stories. I left our time together with increased knowledge of the challenges we all face on a daily basis, too often we get so spun up and tangled with our own stuff it’s easy to forget that others are tangled as well. Tonight felt like a lifeline had been tossed to me and all I needed to do was, hang on! We each took a turn sharing life experiences and struggles and as we continued talking about the day-to-day stuff our conversation easily turned to God, God’s role in our lives and how we might be more drawn into who we were created to be, I felt very honored to have them share their parenting stories with me, since I am not a parent and most likely will not be one but I do admire the sacrifices they made for their children and the positive and responsible adults their children have grown into…that stuff doesn’t just happen by accident. We covered all the major issues in today’s headline news and well, we came up with some pretty good ideas to solve those issues as well, that’s what women do! The most important aspect is, we listen and support one another and pray for each other. I look forward to sharing our study of Esther with each of you in the coming months. I’m excited to read, discuss and apply lessons from Esther’s story to our everyday lives.

Look for more than the good in everything and everyone, find the GLORY in it all! We are all God’s creation, created for His glory. As I am typing these words, I am also asking God to bless everyone reading this. My prayer is that His light and love are revealed to you in a special way today. This blog is a method of spreading God’s Word and message, I am blessed to be able to share my thoughts with the world. I’m human, so of course I love to receive your comments; however, I know that none of this would be possible if not for the encouragement and support of my friends and readers but most especially if God had not placed this journey before me. Imagination…just the word itself conjures up images in my mind. And I’ll be honest, when I hear “imagination” I often (9 times out of 10) think of WDW (Walt Disney World). I love going there, I feel like a kid again when I’m there. I loved the reading for today and how Lewis connects prayer and imagination together. He speaks of the use of imagery when we pray. Often when I hear a bible story or sermon on something specific I think of Sunday school classes when I was a kid. Our church used these preprinted cards to bring the bible stories to life. A few favorites were “Daniel in the lion’s den,” “Jonah and the whale,” and “Zacchaeus and the Sycamore tree!” We all have imaginations, some of us explore them more than others and we all express ourselves in many ways. We are all uniquely created by God and discover ways of surrendering ourselves to the imaginary of the Christian life. Each persons relationship with God is personal, we don’t all see God in the exact same way. Some people see God the strongest through nature, others through books, still others through the actions of others. Of course this is not a complete list, for myself I see and interact with God through a variety of activities. I have experienced God through conversations with coworkers, sometimes through direct discuss about the Bible and other times through their actions. I also experience God through friends while sharing meals and conversations, through bible study groups, church services, through children and their innocence and honesty. During the past year I’ve been trying to see and be the literal “hands and feet” of Jesus. Jesus did not spend every minute in the Temple, He was with sinners, the forgotten, the diseased, the poor, tax collectors and prostitutes. Jesus came to save the lost. I have also been participating with an online course of contemplative photography and photographers which has increased my creativity and imagination so much deeper level than I ever thought possible. I feel truly blessed to have the freedom and courage to share my thoughts through this medium of blogging and through photos and other hobbies I enjoy, I sincerely try to represent God and His love with my words and actions, it is only because of Him that I have this opportunity. We are only limited by ourselves, Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” When I arrived home from work today, I picked up my mail and I received a promotional in the mail from WDW, and the caption was “Imagination is Waiting!” I laughed and smiled at the timing of this small inconsequential piece of mail that God used to help me see Him more clearly. A clarifying moment for me that God is ever-present and with me always. And, the wonderful thing is He’s always present and available to EVERYONE!

“If a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.” That is a quote from Mere Christianity by C.S.Lewis (Book II: Chapter 3 “The Shocking Alternative”). Today’s devotional poses the question, “what is mankind that you (God) are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” ” Why, then did God give them (humans) free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.” I enjoy how Lewis is straightforward and simple with his explanation of the question. God created us, He loves us and desires a relationship with us not because He created us but because we chose to love Him in return and to recognize we are nothing without Him.

Hebrews 2:5-11 “It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor and put everything under their feet.” In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Today’s passage mentions “predestination” a couple of times, I am not a theologian but I have participated in a few conversations on the subject. I am not advocating or condemning the belief and understanding of it. What I will do is tell you that I believe I was created by God, given a purpose and that I am loved by God. The world, the universe and all its wonders were created by God for His purposes and glory. There’s absolutely nothing on my part to be worthy of love, I know there are times that I think to myself, “of course I’m lovable!” That is mostly pride or over confidence and the truth all wrapped up together. I am completely ok with the belief in predestination and I am also completely ok with the belief in free will. Maybe this analogy will help or quite possibly I could lose you in translation! I have been interested in Chinese Dynasty films for a few years and the Dynasties were rulers usually from the same family, one might say their heirs were “predestined” to someday rule. Usually rulers had many wife’s to ensure a son would be born to eventually rule and carry on the family name and traditions. But…just because the father is a wise and fair ruler does that mean his heirs will be too? Each person is faced with choices, “free will” just because a parent is wise and fair there are no guarantees that their children will do the same. If the heir follows in the footsteps of their fathers/ancestors is it because of free will or predestined (hereditary). Pride has a way of showing up when people think and take credit for things that were really beyond their comprehension. If the heir does something completely different, the blame game starts because bad choices were made? I am not trying to confuse anyone or seem like I am afraid to commit, the truth is salvation, faith and knowing, not just believing that God is real is personal and public all at the same time. Whether or not I was “predestined” “chosen” by God, I know that I had a moment of decision and wanted to publicly announce my “come to Jesus” moment. I strive to be the best person I can be, I study and read my Bible, read books about the Bible and I watch movies about faith and the Bible; plus I do a lot of other stuff too that I’m not so proud of…I procrastinate, I say bad things, I speed while driving sometimes, I miss church a lot, I over eat a lot…you get the picture, I’m not perfect. God is not looking for perfect, he’s looking for honesty, courage, and love to mention a few. What I know for absolute truth is…I am a sinner, I cannot save myself, grace is given not deserved, mercy is applied and given instead of punishment. I will never be or do enough to be worthy of salvation so I’m thankful that God created me and loves me and I strive to live into the purposes He created me for. My Father is the King of Kings and I am His heir, my destiny and destination is Heaven.

Romans 8:26-39 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. C.S.Lewis wrote an essay entitled: Present Concerns “The Three Kinds of People” a summary of these are as following.
1. There are those people who live for their own sake and pleasure. We would call those non-religious or irreligious people. Regardless of what you call them, or how you describe them, they are people who live any way they want. They simply don’t care for God or religion or spiritual things. In many cases, spiritual things aren’t even on their radar. There are more of these people around than you might think. Philosopher Charles Taylor has noted that this is the first time in human history when one can live one’s entire life without any sense of the transcendent.
2. There are those people who live with a sense that there is a greater claim on their lives—God’s claim. We’ll call these religious people. But more often than not, they surrender to that claim like a man surrenders to paying taxes. They do it because they have to, but then, who wants to pay taxes?! Consequently their faith is as sterile as tax day. It’s there, but they hope that having done their due diligence, and paid what they owe to God, there will be enough of life left over for them to have some fun.
3. There are those people who don’t feel that the will of God limits their will, but it is their will. Unlike the non-religious and religious persons, they don’t live for themselves but for God; for Christ. They do what they do for Gods sake, for His beauty’s sake, for His glory’s sake. For them to live is Christ, as stated by Paul in Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Luke 21:1-19 “As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. A prayer of an inflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord. Psalm 102:1-11 “Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers. My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones. I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. Luke 6:37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven…”

Forgiveness is more than simply asking for it, the Bible and the teachings of Jesus are clear in that to receive forgiveness, we must forgive others who have wronged us whether and most assuredly when they don’t deserve it. Isn’t that precisely what we do to God? There is absolutely nothing worthy in our attempts to seek forgiveness we are sinful by nature and from inception. It is God’s grace and mercy that bestows forgiveness upon and to us. We can not expect or should even ask for forgiveness if in our hearts and minds we are holding onto grudges and insults and wrongdoings of others, we must live into and through our beliefs that forgiveness is for everyone, regardless of its intent and circumstances. “…yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” 1 Corinthians 8:6. Amen!

1 John 1:5-10 “This is the message we have heard from  and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. The Weight of Glory “On Forgiveness” by C.S.Lewis

As most of you know, I’m a huge C.S.Lewis fan and I found the coolest YouTube videos listed under C.S.LewisDoodle.. I hope you find insights or nuggets of knowledge from watching them. I have posted ” The Grand Miracle” parts 1 and 2 in today’s posts as they were referenced in the devotional I read. The visual aids provided an added benefit to understanding Christianity and the role of Jesus. Thank you for your continued support in reading my blog posts and I hope that your season of Lent brings you closer to what you seek. I am finding more and more clarity of life and purpose as I listen for God’s voice and He’s teaching me about authenticity not just from devotion and study time but through the people I get to share this life with. Sometimes I don’t see things or understand them fully until I recognize others displaying them, such as humility, selflessness, patience, courtesy, respect…it’s seeing “WWJD” live action! I know for myself, I over complicate life…A LOT! It really is simple, be like Jesus. God bless you today and always…

My dearest friends and family and possible newcomers I want to tell you that as I am typing this I am also asking God to blessing you, yes each and every person reading this I am asking God to meet your needs whatever they may be at this very moment. I believe in the all-powerful, all-knowing and all loving God who created each of us and died to give us everlasting life in Heaven. The words I’m sharing may not completely line up with the scripture passages for today but God has placed some things upon my heart to share. I am abundantly blessed with wonderful friends, coworkers, mentors and family. I just want to say that each of you add value to my life simply by knowing you and learning from you. I’m a smarter and wiser person due to the character of these individuals I get the opportunity to work with every week, (coworkers, supervisors and managers) they have all taught me patience; cause, concern and control of situations and life in general, I’ve learned compromise is not the same as giving in and giving up, it’s teamwork, I’ve learned collaboration, respect and mutual admiration for one another. I am a better person because of these individuals and they have strengthen and shaped my daily walk with Christ sometimes through direct conversation but other times simply by the standards in which they live their lives. I rarely see these individuals outside of our work environment but my love and admiration for them carries over into my social life, my family life and most importantly my Christian life. I absolutely trust and believe that these individuals are in my life for a purpose, a Godly purpose. I am blessed beyond measure and I hope they know just how honored I am to have them in my life. I don’t want to start naming individuals because I would definitely forget some but I truly try to show or tell each of them that they are important to me. To my two oldest friends from College, I love you women like sisters, we have all shared very important events with one another through the years and although we do not see one another often, you are always in my heart. To old friends that have strayed away, our friendships served a purpose for a season and my life is forever changed because of you. To the individuals who have encouraged me to pursue my dreams of writing and art, thank you! I am passionate about tell my story and God’s stories and how they are combined, by the grace of God and His never-ending mercies. I cannot forget my family, you have always supported me in all my endeavors, you were always my biggest fans. I’m talking aunts, uncles, cousins, first and second cousins, grandparents and even great-grandparents. What a joy to have known my parents, parents and theirs as well. I’m thankful for the richness of growing up in rural/country America and for being a child of the ’60’s and 70’s…yep, I’m a “Baby Boomer!” That was a time of true freedom and carefree spirits, a different time and place from what youth today experience, thank you Jesus for the parents you blessed me with also for my brother, niece and nephew, and their extended families. So, grab hold of the blessings coming your way, trust in God’s Will and believe. You are loved, you are important and you absolutely matter. I like this saying, “I’m not where I want to be but thank God I’m not where I used to be!” Each day is a new day, fresh start…love deeply, laugh often and forgive more. 💞

C.S.Lewis once stated that he had nothing to offer his readers in regards to solving the intellectual problem raised by suffering…he was quoted saying, “when pain is to be born, a little courage helps more than much knowledge, a little human sympathy more than much courage, and the least tincture of the love of God more than all.”

Sin, humanity’s dirty secret. Not so much but our attitudes toward “sin” often is our defining of others more so than ourselves. Pride gets the best and worst of us from time to time. We for one reason or another find it easier to see the sin in others lives before we see it in our own, why is that? Pride, and the lack of ownership I believe are two contributing factors. The fact is long before we take our first breaths outside of our mothers womb, we are sinners. No one is immune from sin, we all start life out as sinners…fact. Another fact, Jesus took our place on Calvary. Jesus paid the ransom for all of our sins, salvation is free to all who will surrender to Him, ask for forgiveness of sins and open our hearts, minds and souls to Him. Inside of “redefining” sin, lets acknowledge our sin and talk to God more, as we seek His will knowing we were born sinners and by the grace of God we are redeemed! Hallelujah!

Ephesians 1:1-10 “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. Psalm 2:1-12 “Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
